Ethical and economic dimensions of work in Europe
Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas
Rome
22 June 2007

Presentation of the conference

Since the inception of the Rome Treaties, Europe has undergone relevant changes in the political, economic and social fields. In the sphere of practical business economics, the consequence of these changes is, among others, the emergence of new organizational structures of work and production that deeply influence the life of all human beings. Entrepreneurs and managers face new questions and problems and it is their responsibilities to find rational economic solutions which may not overwhelm the basic anthropological dimension of work. In this respect, university teachers and researchers share primary responsibilities and are accountable for their actions along with the business community as they teach students – especially business students – those coordinates which indicate the way of managing business and work in respect of human dignity.
The present conference aims to review the question of human work in organic connection with the objectives and the methodological perspective of the European Meeting of University Professors. Hence, authors are invited to present reflections on the ethical and economic dimensions of work by making evident the role of business firms and universities within the various European scenarios.
