On
the Occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the beginning of the Faculty
of Social Sciences, Angelicum (1952 – 2002), the following Research Project is
proposed:
The
Dominican Contribution to Social Ethics in the 20th Century Aim
The
publication of a book in English by 2004 which will present the intellectual
contribution of Dominicans to social ethics and to the Church’s social
teaching in the 20th century. Co-ordinators

Various
foundations which already collaborate with the FASS will be contacted with a
view to obtaining funds for this project. We expect to have two meetings of
those working on the project, probably at its beginning and at an intermediate
stage. Finance to cover research and travel costs will be available, with

The
Dominican Order produced a series of important thinkers in the field of
Christian social thought in the 20th century. In Germany, Eberhard
Welty and Arthur F. Utz (school of Walberberg); in Belgium, Ceslas Rutten and
Constantius van Gestel (both at the University of Louvain) and the Nobel Peace
Prize winner in 1958, Dominique G. Pire; In France, M.-Dominique Chenu, Jacques
Loew (worker priest) and Louis Joseph Lebret (founder of Economie et
Humanisme); in Spain, Pedro Gerard and José Gafo (organisers of catholic
trade unions); in Italy, Raimondo Spiazzi, Reginaldo Iannarone (director for
many years of Temi di predicazione, Naples) and the Florentine group of
Santa Maria Novella who produced from 1944 until 1998 the journal Vita
Sociale (founded by Reginaldo Santilli, who was close to the “Catholic
communists” in the ealy 1940’s). Also “Blackfriars”, especially in its
early years, was very concerned with social themes. Method
We
aim to uncover what was the real contribution of these different members of the
Order to social ethics and Church social teaching rather than to create a series
of apologetic biographies. The method of the research will therefore be that of
the history of doctrine and its output will include an outline of the historical
context in which their contribution developed. The research will involve serious
critical work, based on primary sources, and therefore will not avoid criticism
and negative evaluations of an individual’s work where necessary. Request

Contributi
dei domenicani all’etica sociale nel XX sec. Scopo: pubblicazione
entro il 2004 in inglese di un volume che presenti i contributi contenutistici
di domenicani all’Etica Sociale(ES) e allo sviluppo della Dottrina Sociale
della Chiesa (DSC) nel XX sec. nelle differenti aree culturali Responsabili: Francesco
Compagnoni OP (teologia morale) e Helen Alford OP (organizzazione aziendale)
docenti presso la Facoltà di Scienze Sociali dell’Angelicum di Roma. Mezzi: Saranno
contattate diverse fondazioni, che già collaborano con la FASS, al fine di
ottenere finanziamenti adeguati. Si prevedono almeno due incontro dei
collaboratori (iniziale ed intemedio), finanziamenti per le spese di ricerca e
di viaggi, una segreteria di coordinamento presso la FASS. Tempi:

Domenicano nel campo del pensiero sociale cristiano ha prodotto in questo secolo
una serie di solidi studiosi. In Germania Eberhard Welty e Arthur F. Utz (Scuola
di Walberberg); in Belgio Ceslas Rutten e Constantius van Gestel (entrambi dell'Univ.
Catt. di Lovanio) e il premio Nobel per la Pace 1958 Dominique G. Pire; in
Francia M.-Dominique Chenu, Jacques Loew (prete operaio) e Louis-Joseph Lebret
(fondatore di "Economie et Humanisme"); in Spagna Pedro Gerard e José
Gafo (organizzatori dei sindacati cattolici); in Italia Raimondo Spiazzi,
Reginaldo Iannarone (per tanti anni direttore di "Temi di predicazione",
Napoli)) e il gruppo fiorentino di S. Maria Novella che scritto dal 1944 al 1998
su "Vita Sociale" (fondata da Reginaldo Santilli, vicino ai
"cattolici comunisti" dei primi anni '40). Anche “Black Friars”,
specialmente nei primi decenni, si è molto occupato di temi sociali. Metodologia: Non
vogliamo una serie di biografie, più o meno apologetiche, bensì scoprire quali
contributi reali diversi membri dell’Ordine hanno apportato alla ES e alla DSC.
Il metodo sarà quello della storia delle dottrine, quindi comprendente anche la
delineazione del quadro storico entro il quale sono nati. La ricerca sarà di
serio studio critico e partirà dalle fonti come anche non avrà paura
nell’esprimere eventuali giudizi negativi. Richiesta: Se
